About the John Happy CLL Research Foundation.

The John Happy Leukemia foundation was founded in 1997 by John M. Happy, PhD, in memory of his father, John Happy, who died of leukemia. The foundation is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization incorporated in New Jersey..

Why we were formed:
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common form of adult leukemia in the United States and is currently incurable.

  • Although CLL has a high incidence rate compared to other leukemias, research for its treatment is under-funded (as evidenced by the number of patients afflicted and the lack of adequate therapies existing for this eventually fatal disease).

  • There has been no foundation with a national scope dedicated specifically towards obtaining research funds for CLL treatment. It is therefore, the general belief that there is a special need for a national foundation to raise funds for CLL research - a fund that CLL patients, friends and family can contribute to and know that their money will be directed specifically towards CLL research.

  • The organizers of this foundation made sure that 100% of public contributions would be directed toward CLL research. We are an all-volunteer group with no administrative costs. Any other expenses for running this foundation are paid for by a specific administration grant which assures public contributors that all their donations will go to CLL research.
